The CV Starr East Asian library at UC Berkley features a rich palette of materials that beautifully frame the collection and serve to create an engaging, rich environment from research and exploration. The exterior is comprised of rainscreen stone cladding, bronze and copper cladding, glass window walls and cast bronze sunshades. The sunshades filter light into the central hall, select reading rooms and offices.
Cast bronze grill assemblies grace the library’s exterior and provide a softer, filtered light into the space conducive to study and reflection. Inspired by traditional wood screen patterns, we designed and engineered them to complement the modernity created by the design architects. The 12,000 square feet of material arrived at the site completely assembled and sequentially packaged for ease of installation. Each of the units fit the proper dimensions without any field modifications.
